Goodluck Jonathan has commented on the #EndSARS protest holding in several states across the country.

 

The former President who stated that the protests seek to advance Nigeria as a place where all can live out their full potential, added that no bloods needs to be spilled.

Former militant leader, Tompolo makes first public appearance in 4 years after being declared wanted by security agencies

Former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo a.k.a Tompolo has made his first public appearance in 4 years after being declared wanted by security agencies.

 

Recall that Tompolo was declared wanted in 2016 following two bench warrants issued against him by a Federal High Court in Lagos, where he was charged with N45.9bn fraud.

Speaking in a court after the declaration was made, the anti-graft agency told a federal judge that the whereabouts of the former militant leader was unknown. The EFCC further disclosed that all the security agencies can’t find him.

 

Minister of state for Labour, Festus Keyamo who was a counsel to the EFCC at that time said;

 

“We wish to inform the court that the warrant of arrest that this court issued in respect of the first defendant (Mr. Ekpemupolo) has not been ‎executed despite the best efforts of all the security agents in this country.

“Every security agent in this country is involved in the search for the first defendant. What is unfolding is something that has never been seen before in this country for a very long time.”

 

Making his first public appearance in 4 years, Tompolo was seen vibing to an Ijaw song with his kinsmen who wore traditional outfits. Video from the scene was streamed live on Facebook.

Kaduna State Polytechnic student bags 5 years jail term for fraud

A Kaduna state polytechnic student has been jailed for five years for fraud.

Babuwa Christopher, a student of Quantity Survey was convicted and sentenced by Justice Mohammed Tukur of the Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kaduna on Wednesday, October 21.

The defendant was convicted after he pleaded guilty to an amended one-count criminal charge.

 

The charge reads,” that you Babuwa Christopher of No. 3 Maha Close, Barnawa, Kaduna sometime in July, 2020 in Kaduna within the judicial Division of this Honourable Court with intent to commit an offence, had in your possession documents containing false pretence to wit; Union Bank Visa Card bearing Maduka M.O, Union Bank Visa Card with name Peter, Union Bank Visa Card of Jatau Richard, United Bank of Africa( UBA) debit card bearing the name ThankGod and Diamond Bank Master Card with unidentifiable name and you thereby committed an offence of attempt to commit cheating contrary to Section 57 of the Penal Code Law, 2017 of Kaduna State and punishable under section 307 of the same Law”

In view of his plea, prosecuting counsel, Y.J.Matiyak to prayed the court to convict and sentence him accordingly. But defence counsel, Abdulsalam Nurudeen, counsel asked the Court to temper justice with mercy as the defendant is a first time offender.

Justice Tukur, then convicted and sentenced Christopher to five years imprisonment with an option of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000) fine.

According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the convict was arrested at a lodge in Barnawa, Kaduna based on intelligence on his involvement in cybercrime.

 

The officials said fraudulent documents including Debit cards of several tier-one banks in Nigeria, bearing different names were recovered from him during his arrest.

In a shift, Pope Francis has voiced his support for same-sex civil unions in a documentary that debuted in Rome today, October 21, 2020.

 

Speaking about pastoral outreach and care for people who identify as LGBTQ, the pontiff said that he thinks same-sex couples should be allowed to have “civil unions”.

 

His comments in the documentary directed by Evgeny Afineevsky has been described by observers as his clearest remarks yet on gay relationships.

“Homosexual people have a right to be in a family,” Pope Francis said in the documentary.

 

“They are children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out or made miserable over it.

 

“What we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are legally covered.”

 

He added that he “stood up for that”, apparently referring to his time as Archbishop of Buenos Aires when, although opposing same-sex marriages in law, he supported some legal protections for same-sex couples.

The film Francesco, about the life and work of Pope Francis, premiered as part of the Rome Film Festival.

 

As well as the Pope’s comments on civil unions, the film also shows him encouraging two gay men to attend church with their three children.

Pope Francis’s biographer, Austen Ivereigh, told the BBC he was “not surprised” by the latest comments.
