#EndSARS: Shelve your planned protest- Minister of Youths, Sunday Dare tells Naira Marley

Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare, has appealed to singer Naira Marley to shelve the #EndSARSbrutality protest he has planned to lead on Tuesday October 6.

 

The singer in a tweet posted yesterday evening said at about 9am today, he would be leading a peaceful protest in Lagos.

”So 9am tomorrow we move 2nd toll gate Peaceful protest No vandalism, no fights and no stealing.” the singer tweeted

 

Reacting to his tweet, the Minister appealed to him and others to shelve the protest as their grievances regarding SARS and police brutality are currently being addressed.

”I urge you and other youth not to embark upon any protest. Your grievances are being addressed at the highest level of government. As the Minister in charge of youth I know this is an issue that must be tackled. Government is doing just that.” The Minister tweeted

Naira Marley is yet to react to the Minister’s appeal.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been left heartbroken after their dog Lupo died over the weekend.

 

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge released a statement via their official Instagram account to mourn the dog.

 

Sharing a picture of their puppy, Kensington Palace wrote: “Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much. – W & C”.

Lupo featured in many pictures with the royals, including one of the first official photos of Prince George.

The English cocker spaniel was bred from a dog which was owned by Michael and Carole Middleton, Kate’s parents.

 

He was given to the couple in 2011, and is believed to have helped them pick a name for Prince George.

The couple are said to have written names on various pieces of paper and scattered them on the floor.

 

Lupo wandered through them, but stopped when he reached the name George.

President Buhari receives Justice Ayo Salami-led probe panel report on suspended Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday November 20, received the report of the Justice Ayo Salami-led probe panel on alleged corruption charges against suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

At the brief ceremony which was held at the Executive Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja, Justice Salami handed boxes of documents said to be volumes of the report to the President.

Recall that after Magu was accused of corruption and abuse of office by the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, the panel was constituted by President Buhari and given given 45 days to carry out the assignment. The time frame was however extended further after the panel requested for more time.

Nigerian police denies reports its officer shot newspaper vendor dead in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied reports that a policeman attached to Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, fired the stray bullet that killed a newspaper vendor in Abuja on Thursday, November 19.

 

A statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Yusuf Mariam, preliminary investigation shows that the security agent who fired the shot was not a policeman as it has been widely reported.

The statement reads

 

“The FCT Police Command wishes to unequivocally refute the allegation making round sections of the media that a Police officer attached to the convoy of the Speaker of the House of Representatives shot at a newspaper vendor within the Three Arm Zone on Thursday 19th November,2020.

“Contrary to the misleading information, preliminary investigation into the unfortunate incident reveals that the security aide who shot at the vendor is not a member of the Nigeria Police Force.

“However, the Commissioner of Police FCT CP. Bala Ciroma has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident.

“While commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased, the Commissioner of Police wishes to guarantee members of the public that the Command will be lucid in its investigation and ensure the findings are made public.”
